Firstly, I'm not 100% sure if you're all aware or not, but the club lost one of its good members earlier in the year when Roy (username wee loon and Roi) tragically lost his life after battling through being on an Iron lung. His family of two kids Xander, Roo and wife Kellie are obviously left distraught by this and we've since found out via Andy that his wife is trying her hardest to put Roy's Mk2 Golf that he converted to a G60 back on the road as a tribute to him, her dream is to have their Son drive it into the gates of Biggar one day.

Unfortunately as Roi was a VAG tech, she didn't have to be and although interested in cars, she doesn't have the skill set or the time to see it through, what single working mum with two young kids would?
This is where we come in. While talking to the other crew members and a couple of mates of Roy at the Perth meet a few weeks back, I asked what was to come of Roy's Mk2 and the above unfolded, so I said why don't the club help her out as it's always given to charity, and what better charity than helping a lost family get a smile back on their face? Everyone agreed and everyone's willing to give up their free time to go and help, while teaching the family a little about how to look after the car. Obviously to do this we'll need funds for parts, we know that it needs, clutch, subframe, bushes, brakes going through the engine and charger etc etc etc, you know the score but a VW tech and Andy are going to make the trip up North soon to get a handle on just what's what.

Knowing what it costs to do mk2s to a good safe mechanical standard we'd figured on the Club getting the ball rolling with a £500 kickstarter to get the car in for an MOT. It needs a T belt and clutch to move, and then maybe some charity runs, a club BBQ etc etc etc Also, any donations, be it parts or money will be gratefully accepted.

I realise £500 is a good chunk of coin and a big old ask but we feel it's for a worthy cause. We'll obviously do a detailed build thread and keep all members posted. Also if there's a better way of using the clubs funds to help a family of someone who helped so many on here, I've never heard it. As it stands, club funds are at around £6000 and have been for many years now.

Sorry for the wall of text, please vote, Yes or No. Also try and keep opinions respectful as it's a delicate matter. Also if anyone dislikes this use of funds and there's any finger pointing to be done, direct it at me as Lewis has nothing to do with this and will only joint sign with me to release the funds if the vote is yes.

Poll will run for 7 days and will be linked on Facebook so it's exposed to as many people as possible.

Cheers

Gregor

I've voted yes obviously as roy was one of my best friends and helped
So many people over the years on this forum. Can't think of a greater reason for
Club funds to kick start this project and get the ball rolling to seeing all the Lawtie's mk2 golf back out on the road again.

It's a definite yes from me, I'm not on here often but when I was more active this is absolutely something that the club would have been up for being involved in. I didn't really know Roy but he was very active on here and always willing to help others so I think this is a very good idea.

Yes from me as well. Be nice to see the money go to a good cause, isn't doing anything just sitting in the bank.

Thanks for all the response so far and messages I've received asking to
Donate too. Let's get a look at the car first and see what state it's in and what it may need. I know kellie has already bought a steering rack and know from talking to roy it defo needed a
Clutch. He never mentioned a flywheel to me at any point. It's needing a subframe too that's a definate.

It is in a garage now but it had been outside for around 2 years I think from when he moved back north so I'll imagine discs and pads all round too.

Me and my mates are heading up in a couple of weeks so will have a good look
Over it then and take it from there.

Thanks again for support.

It's great to see the old SVAG community spirit is still going strong.

Having discussed how to approach this over the last few weeks with the other crew members, I'm glad it's going to finally come to fruition some how.

I've offered my time and experience with bodywork and will get a good look over the car at the earliest opportunity to see what's required in that area.

Thanks for all the offers of help and parts so far.

Good idea never met the guy but definitely gave me some help over pms

If I have any parts that's needed you can have them

And if you are needing a hand with anything even if it's lifting or shifting or any the non skilled dirty jobs I'm your man

A donation page would be a good idea aswell

£500 + of the clubs money is good aswell

Of course we should do this! This is what the club should be about, working together to help each out a very good cause!

I am also willing to help in anyway and will also donate any lubricants and fluids required.

Brilliant stuff folks, as Rico said it's great to see the community pulling together to help one of their own. We never doubted you would but it was one of the many plus sides of doing this, that it would get people involved again and feeling the spirit of what this club is about.

For those who've offered us money or parts etc, we'll set up a PayPal address once we know where we're at and what we need, any heavy parts, we'll collect amongst ourselves if we can to save on shipping. Anyone wishing to send small parts, we'll sort out an address for that too. I'm willing to take them at my house too as I'm always about to collect through the day.

Once again, thanks for all the enthusiasm and offers. Roy will be lobbing popcorn at us, calling us saps and laughing

Only met him once or twice, but could tell he was one of the good ones immediately. I can't think of a better cause for our charity donation to be fair.

Big thumbs up for me.

I'm up for this once we have a list of what's needed get it posted and I'm sure between us we can get this sorted whether it be through money donations or parts donation.

I have a brand new LUK clutch sitting here that can be donated I'll do some digging but I'm sure it's the right one.
