A guy at work has a rover 75 2.5ltr engine and its rattling...the mechanic said it needs a new inlet manifold but went on eBay and for what it is, a plastic inlet manifold. Does anyone know what the issue is with them and what to watch out for.
Sorry to post up on here about it but I don't really use other forums :)

Cheers
Lewis

I can't remember exactly what the issue with these was but I think it was to do with a flap breaking off inside the manifold.
I could be totally wrong but it wasn't a repairable thing.

This would be a good place to start, http://forums.mg-rover.org I was a member briefly when Jodie had her MGF and they know their stuff.

Intake manifold runner flaps !!
It's common. I've seen people split the inlet open and remove them.and re seal it.
A new inlet is around 700 quid if I remember right.
Done one before. Not hard job but a bit of a scuttle. ......

Hope this helps ..... Don't run it too long like this... bits end up being sucker in the inlet ports and bending valves

I wasn't too far wrong then. Didn't realise it could be split open though.

If you're splitting it, you needa make sure its 100% sealed back up again!
