The engine on my 16v mk2 has took the huff and decided to die on me

2 days after it's mot

What started off as a possible tappet noise turned into what sounded like a bag of washers in a blender

It was still driving fine with no smoke and plenty of power but it sounds like a skeleton having a chug in a biscuit tin

So it's either swap the engine or a conversion

I can do a straight swap with the same engine but don't have the space or know how to do a conversion

Could somebody recommend someone that would either supply and fit an engine or fit one that I find

Either 20vt. Vr6 or an abf

I've had an abf before in a mk2 and really liked it

What kind of budget would I be looking at

For for supply and fit or just fit

Cheers

I'd be interested to find out as well who else does conversions in the East/central Scotland. Dubnutz in Bo'ness and Trix in Dunfermline are the only two in this sort of area that I know of that would be able to sort you out, both seem good guys and really clued up in VW stuff. I tried them a few months ago but still waiting to hear back from them, not sure if they're just busy or just didn't want the job but would be good to hear of other trusted alternatives.

I'm selling a 1.8t bora just now that gives you nearly everything you need and bits left to get some money back :rthumb:

A straight swap is easy enough

If I find somebody to do it for me I'll get in touch :rthumb:

I'm the same I've messaged Trix a couple of times for different jobs but must be busy

And dubnutz is meant to be the best about but again must be busy

I'd maybe have a go at doing it but I've not got a garage and the hastle of trying to do long projects on a driveway is not the best

If I get any more info I'll let you know :rthumb:

Other than the above lads Goose on here done a few conversions too, no idea whether he'd take on homer though.

Also Gordon Corrieri does very good work. Think Dino the 1.8t Mk2 and the black Mk2 Vr Davidvsb (or similar) Gordon's not on here anymore but someone could likely get him on Facebook.

For those contacting trix, phone him if you havent cause he's never on here these days.
